Title Insurance Premiums

  • How are title insurance premiums determined?
  • Will my title insurance rates be any different if I am getting a mortgage?
  • Will my property qualify for lower rates?

Being an informed consumer can save you money, time and aggravation.  You should ask the following questions of a title insurance agent before purchasing title insurance.

Title Insurance Agent Fees

  • Does the title insurance agent charge fees in addition to the premium cost?
  • Since fees, unlike premiums, can vary widely from agent to agent, request that the agent provide a written disclosure of all fees up front.
  • Unlike premiums, agent fees are not mandatory so ask if any fees can be reduced or eliminated.

Title Insurance Agent Services

  • Will the agent hold your settlement at a convenient location?  If so, will the agent charge you extra for that convenience?
  • If possible, will the agent provide you with the final settlement costs the day before settlement?
  • If you or your spouse will not be able to attend settlement, how will the agent assist you?  Will that be your problem to solve or will the agent take steps to help you?  What will the cost be? .
  • If you have any other special needs or concerns, explain them to the agent and ask if he or she can help you?  If so, will there be an extra charge?
